Vicar puts faith in motorhome as he hits road

After eight years helping the community, a priest is swapping the comfort of his pulpit for life on the open road.

The Rev John Pescod will conduct his final service at 3pm on Sunday at All Saints’ Church, Castle Cary, the same day he turns 65, before then setting off for a new life in a motorhome.

Accompanied by wife Jane, 60, Mr Pescod is planning to travel across the country, starting with Scotland.

Mr Pescod said it has been a privilege serving the parishes of All Saints’ in Castle Cary and St Andrew’s in Ansford.

He said: “I’ve had the most rewarding time as a vicar. I have met some wonderful people at such important times of their lives and had the privilege of sharing these times with them. Within a day you can be seeing a bereaved family in the morning and then later a couple about to get married. It goes up and down like a yo-yo.

“Castle Cary is such a good community. It is probably one of the friendliest and most supportive.
