HULL: A former Sydney Smith School pupil is celebrating after passing a prestigious veterinary nursing diploma with distinction.

Steven Docherty, 29, has been invited to publish his work on diabetes and address the British Veterinary Nursing Association Ltd (BVNA) congress in October.

It comes after he graduated from Myerscough College in Preston, Lancashire, with a distinction for the Diploma Of Higher Education In Advanced Veterinary Nursing.

Mr Docherty, who lives in Driffield and works for the Haven Veterinary Group in Hull, completed the course through a combination of distance learning and weekend seminars.

He was the only person from East Yorkshire to complete the diploma and one of only a handful to pass with distinction.

He said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the course, although it was sometimes challenging juggling a demanding job with studying and a home life.”
